| Siemens has declared the product 6SE6400-4BD24-0FA0 obsolete since 01.10.2023, i.e. out of production | |
The Siemens 6SE6400-4BD24-0FA0 is a braking resistor for frequency converters of the MICROMASTER 4 family with a line voltage of 380–480 V.
During deceleration and stopping, the motor operates as a generator and feeds energy back into the DC link of the converter. Connected to the braking chopper, the resistor dissipates this energy as heat, preventing overvoltage in the DC link and allowing fast, controlled braking even with high-inertia loads.
It has a resistance of 8.2 Ω, a continuous power of 4 kW and a peak power of 80 kW, making it suitable for intermittent braking cycles with high instantaneous power.
The resistor has degree of protection IP20, dimensions of 650 x 395 x 315 mm (H x W x D) and a weight of approximately 16.7 kg. Siemens started the phase-out of the product as of 1 October 2023.

It dissipates as heat the energy that the motor feeds back to the converter during braking, preventing the DC link voltage from exceeding its limits and the converter from tripping on overvoltage.
It is intended for 380–480 V MICROMASTER 4 converters equipped with a braking chopper. Before ordering, we recommend checking in the Siemens documentation that the 8.2 Ω value is specified for the size of the installed converter.
The resistor can dissipate 4 kW continuously, while it withstands up to 80 kW for short braking intervals. The braking cycle of the application must stay within these limits to avoid overheating.
The most common signs include DC link overvoltage alarms during braking, longer than expected stopping times, excessive overheating, burn marks or loose terminals, and a measured resistance value different from the rated one.
Yes. If available in stock, the resistor can be shipped quickly. Contact E-Repair Customer Care stating the part number and the model of the installed converter.
